Great Yarmouth Community Housing (GYCH), is marking a milestone after another new kitchen – the 500th to be refurbished so far – was installed in Gorleston, at the home of Christina Carlyon, a mother of five, who has lived at the property for the past five years.
As well as replacing worn out kitchens, some of which are more than 20 years old, we’re also overhauling council house bathrooms. Over the next five years, we’ll install more than 500 new kitchens and about 170 new bathrooms a year. The work is initially concentrated in the Gorleston area where upgrades are most needed but will eventually reach across the region.
Trevor Wainwright, the leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said:
“The renewal of the 500th kitchen is a major milestone in the borough’s vital work to bring council homes into the 21st century to ensure tenants enjoy the best quality of life possible. These kitchens and bathrooms are designed to the highest modern specifications, and incumbent tenants also have input in the layout and finishes. I urge all tenants to grasp this opportunity of key improvements to their homes.”
