East Dunbartonshire Council

Following a competitive tender process, Everwarm successfully secured a contract with East Dunbartonshire Council to install solar thermal central heating to 30 properties within Jedworth Court, a sheltered housing unit in the Bearsden area of Glasgow.

High efficiency Daikin and Worcester systems were installed for the solar panel and boiler systems, respectively.

In each property, the solar panel system was first installed on the roof, with a twin coil solar cylinder then installed and connected to both the heating and panel systems – all via fully insulated pipework containing glycol solar fluid. A new solar controller and pump station unit located within the loft area of each unit will control the system, with access provided via a wall mounted thermostat within the hallway.

By installing solar thermal systems, each tenant will save around 270kgCO2 per annum - in turn reducing their fuel bills while helping the council meet their targets for the Energy Efficiency Standards for Social Housing (EESSH).

Given that the site is a sheltered housing complex, it was crucial that disruption was minimised as far as possible, for the benefit of tenants. As such, existing combi boilers were replaced with system boilers in the same location.

All properties benefitted from an energy performance increase to at least D, with 68% and 10% of properties recording a C and B rating respectively, following installation works.
